Glynmeddig - Brecon,

You are on the slopes of the stunning Cilieni Valley, deep in the Brecon Beacons, at the end of your own half-mile drive. Ducks cruise the pond; red kites patrol overhead. There are breathtaking views from this old converted barn. The young can swim in the river - it's quite safe - cycle or play tennis and football.

Inside, all is light and large, bare stone, old oak rafters and A-frames and some new pine. The Maughans deliberately aimed to make this conversion of an old hay barn and stables a real treat for families and a fun place for children; they also went to great lengths to preserve as many of the original materials as they could. Two huge doors made by local craftsmen lead into the bright, big sitting room into which the evening sun streams.

The bedrooms under the old timbered eaves although small are airy and simply furnished with good storage and breathtaking views; all the doubles also have a single platform bed for children. There's underfloor heating, lashings of hot water, a boot room and a drying room.
