A self-catering venue is excellent for the smaller wedding. Usually only about 22-30 can be accommodated in a large country house or mansion but it is always possible to find additional accommodation in nearby holiday cottages, B&Bs or hotels.  You will most likely have to marry in a local church or registry office and hold the reception in a large country house or mansion although certain houses are licensed for wedding ceremonies. Some of them have extensive grounds for the erection of marquees.

Christmas Hall sleeps up to 20 people in eight bedrooms is situated in the centre of the popular and attractive village of Bildeston overlooking the market square. The house has a civil wedding license.

Sought after stretch of Suffolk countryside which includes historic villages such as Chelsworth, Lavenham, Monks Eleigh and Kersey. 

Christmas Hall is a listed grade II house of special architectural and historical interest and is believed to date back to the early nineteenth century. The house is the former village rectory and now provides spacious comfortable accommodation with many fine original Georgian features. 

The ground floor provides a large kitchen, utility room, study, and three large reception rooms. 

The first floor provides six bedrooms, three having en-suite facilities, with a further large bathroom. Walled gardens and courtyard area, bar-b-que. 

The Historic Medieval Town of Lavenham is four miles away, Constable country close by, and many Bustling market towns, with farmers markets of local produce. Tranquil villages full of antique shops, art galleries. 

Museum of East Anglian Life at Stowmarket, together with a heavy horse centre and the famous clock and watch museum at Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk coast is 45 mins drive away with its many pretty coastal towns. Sudeley Castle Cottages in the Heart of the Cotswolds - weddings welcome

Sudeley Castle Country Cottages is a small, attractive complex of thirteen cottages on the edge of the Sudeley estate, in the Heart of the Costwolds. All cottages are comfortably furnished to a three star standard, with well equipped kitchens, shared gardens, ample parking and a laundry facility on site.

This is where Liz Hurley married Arun Nayar in 2007.

A central function room, Chandos Hall, may also be available for hire for groups. Skendleby Hall in Lincolnshire

Skendleby Hall is a magnificent Grade II listed residence originally dating back to the mid 1700s with a later Victorian wing and additions in the early 1900s, most notably being the Roman Catholic Chapel.

In brief, the substantial accommodation includes 5 reception rooms, 2 kitchens, billiards room, 14 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms/shower rooms. It can accommodate up to 24 people in all.

The House is uniquely situated in its own mature gardens yet only 100 meters from Clifden town centre. The Drawing room is the main room in the House, adorned with paintings and antique furnishings. The gracious room is made intimate by its large roaring turf fire around which friendships are made and stories are told as visitors relax and drink tea or read a book in the evenings.

One of our better known visitors was Chelsea Clinton who stayed with us during her Irish Tour. The bedrooms are all individually decorated with a combination of antiques and modern day conveniences such as tv, direct dial telephones, central heating, large Kingsized orthpaedic beds where possible and en suite bathrooms.

The Gardens with their blend of rockeries, lily ponds and mature plants offer a calming respite after a long days sightseeing. Our outdoor heated swimming pool is open from June 1st to September 20th. There is also a sauna and tennis court.

The Tallow Factory - for a wedding in Suffolk

Located directly opposite the gates of Dedham Church in Dedham on the Essex/Suffolk border, the Tallow Factory (sleeps 10), has provided accommodation for wedding parties every year since 1995. It is a short hop for the bride or groom and /or the guests.

Marry in Scotland

Scotland is always great for weddings.  Years ago when the age of getting married without parental consent in England used to be 21, lovers would frequently elope to Gretna Green, just over the border and marry.  Scotland holds other benefits for weddings; there are numerous pretty country churches, you can hire a piper to pipe the guests into the church, anyone with Scottish connections is entitled to wear a kilt, the reception and accommodation for your guests will be much cheaper than in many parts of England, plus it's just so romantic.
