This area is probably best known for Lee Valley Park on the edge of Epping Forest. Apart from walks and bridleways there is a Dragonfly Sanctuary where over half of Britain's native population is represented, and one of the largest heronrys in Essex - early spring are good times to see the young birds.

Other birds that live in or visit the park are bitterns (bittern watchpoint), siskins in the alder woodland, owls, and migrant waders on the seventy acres lake.
